CHIJ 165th Anniversary Eucharistic Celebrations 2019

CHIJ (Katong) Primary students, staff and parent volunteers, together with 18,000 students, past and present from the other CHIJ schools celebrated Founder’s Day on Tuesday, 28th May at the Singapore Sports Hub which included a thanksgiving Mass led by Archbishop William Goh. The theme for this year is Ever Seeking, Ever Serving.

It was indeed a special day as the IJ schools commemorate the wonderful work of Blessed Nicolas Barre, the foundation laid by Mother Mathilde and her IJ Sisters from France and dedication and commitment of the IJ Sisters to bring education to many generations of girls in Singapore.

In his homily, our Archbishop William Goh stressed on our role in serving others and giving back to society like many ex-students have done.

As part of the celebration, Sister Maria Lau, the head of the Infant Jesus Sisters in Singapore, led the students in the pledge towards supporting the Laudato Si, Care for Our Common Home by Pope Francis.

The celebration concluded with everyone singing the well-loved CHIJ song, Hold on to Our Dream, and the entire stadium was filled laughter and tears of joy as the students trickled home, remembering to seek and serve for the years to come.
