P4 Learning Journey to Kampong Glam 2018

On the 17th of May, our Primary 4 pupils went to Kampong Glam for a heritage trial. Together with their teachers and facilitators, they walked along Bussorah Street and visited the Malay Heritage Centre and the Sultan Mosque.

With thorough explanations from their facilitators and additional information from their mobile devices, they were able to experience, compare and contrast the past and present. At every pit stop, they participated in short quizzes and interactive activities to learn more about the culture and history of Singapore’s Malay community.

More importantly, this learning journey allowed them draw connections to their Social Studies Project Work on our early settlers, their way of life and their contributions. Natasha Prem (Amethyst 4) really enjoyed the trip because “there were a lot of different types of things to see, like food stalls and perfume shops. The Sultan Mosque was majestic and beautiful”. Mariam Irfan (Burgundy 4) felt proud to learn that “both the rich and poor donated to the Sultan Mosque” and Maia Gabrielle (Cerise 4) learnt that Islam is a very inclusive religion as she saw that not every practicing Muslim in
the Mosque was Malay.

All in all, our girls really enjoyed the learning journey and felt proud that Singapore has such a rich culture and history.
