World Thinking Day 2017

24 Brownies gathered in school at 6.45 am on a Saturday morning to celebrate the World Thinking Day with the other sister Guides and Brownies in Singapore. The event is celebrated annually by Guiding sisters all around the world to commemorate our founders’, Lord Baden-Powell’s and his wife Lady Baden-Powell’s birthday. It is also a day when we think about our sister Guides from all around the world.

This year, the World Thinking Day was held at the Singapore Botanic Gardens and was of a greater scale than previous years as it was also the centenary year of Guiding movement in Singapore. We started the event with a walk around the Singapore Botanic Gardens which ended at the Palm Valley. Once we arrived at the Palm Valley, the girls set up their picnic mats and food excitedly for an enjoyable time of picnic. Together with the other Guiding sisters, we managed to break the Singapore’s Book of Record for the largest breakfast picnic turnout.

The weather did not cooperate with us and soon there was a downpour. However, that did not dampen the spirit of the celebration. Everyone stayed on for the performances, the renewal of promise and the mass dance. Our brownies also went to visit various booths that were set up to learn guiding skills such as camp crafts and personal care. Many of them brought home souvenirs such as photos which they took together, bracelets made from buttons and hand-painted handbags to remind them of the day.

Despite the rain, our brownies kept their spirit up and helped one another out, truly exemplifying our motto, “Lend a hand” and one of our brownies laws, “A Brownie plays and works cheerfully.”

Great job, Brownies! Happy Thinking Day to all of you!
